Embellished collar blouse c/o Lovely Wholesale / Polka dot skirt from Forever 21
I think I missed the memo on how to be a girl on technology. In the past 3 years, I think I've taken 10 selfies and 5 pictures of food. I absolutely hate using my phone to take pictures, so I'm not a fan of instagram, and I have very few photos of my day-to-day life.
My reasoning is that I spent good money on a DSLR, so all of my pictures should be taken with it to ensure top quality. But when I do take my camera to restaurants, I feel odd because it's so out of place using an actual camera to take food pics. And have you ever tried taking a selfie with a DSLR? It's a bit of an arm workout. So I'm too awkward to use an actual camera, but too much of misplaced rebel to use a camera phone.
Anyway, here are some non-selfies of me, and pictures of my food that I quickly snapped in an empty restaurant before the waitress approached my table. Anyone have any tips on getting over this camera fear?

I feel like without a stand and remote, a selfie on a DSLR is virtually impossible hahaha! I lost my Canon a few years back and am yet to replace it mostly because I use the camera on my phone for everything now. But I do miss it and I fear that now I'll have to start all over again when I do finally purchase one, unless it's like riding a bike...

Ya know, I feel awkward using my camera phone to take photos in public in general. I can see why you'd be apprehensive of using your giant DSLR, but honestly, with how today is so focused on social media, I don't think anyone bats an eye at anyone taking a photo of anything in public anymore. It's easy for someone like me, who takes photos and selfies of myself in private, but I have never done it in public. I've seen or "caught" people doing so with both camera phones and DSLRs in public before, and it's not really a big deal.
ReplyDeleteI think the main thing to remember is, it's fairly normal to do those things in public these days, and if you want a picture of something, take one. ^__^b I think it's just overall, something you just do and do your best to not care if anyone else is paying attention, because chances are they're not.
Love your outfit! Great photos too :)

The food looks so delicious! What really helped me was to not waste a single thought at what other people might think of you - after all you are working and only doing your job! ;)

I can relate with how you feel about taking DSLR camera to restaurant. It's hard to use it since we have to rush to take pictures before the food getting cold and maybe we don't want the people that dine with us at the same table have to wait for us. Now, I'm using my phone camera to take food pictures and selfie :)
ReplyDeleteBy the way, you look gorgeous, dear....

I blog about jewelry and how to style jewelry with outfits
I hear you about the selfies. I hate them. I won't take them. I don't like whipping out my phone to take a picture of my food either. It's just food and I'm about to eat it. It just seems odd to me and yes its hard to use a camera phone when you have such a high quality one at your disposal.

These photos are beautiful, and the lighting is perfect!
ReplyDeleteThe food ones are making me hungry (that doesn't take much, though!).

I use my cell phone a lot but you have a good point about spending money on a nice DSLR camera and I probably should use mine more. I use it for blog pictures but I'm not skilled enough to use it for my day-to-day life. I think you take good pictures with your camera so keep doing what you're doing :)

I am not the biggest fan of taking pictures with my phone either, I just hate the fact that I cannot achieve top quality!
ReplyDeleteThough, I must admit that having a camera built in phone is very convenient when you want to capture a moment, but not have carried the big DLSR with you!

Sigh I know this feeling! I also bought a dslr and keep telling myself that I need to use it more and to capture moments. But using my iphone is sooo much easier. haha I have definitely tried taking a selfie with a dslr... it's hard!
ReplyDeleteI finally decided that I will use my dslr for big/special events, like vacations, trips and birthdays. but little things like going to the park or eating breakfast are just fine for me to capture on my phone :)

I completely respect your logic - why have a nice camera if you just use your phone all the time? But sometimes the phone is fun and convenient and I try to look at it as a different art form. I love instagram and I'm a 'purist' where I believe all the photos you take should be taken with the phone itself and not with a DSLR and imported.

Love your embellished top and F21 skirt, a great pair! I hate taking pictures inside a restaurant and rarely do... I also hate to be photographed out in public, a bit of a dilemma for a blogger... but I am getting used to it.
ReplyDeleteI think we have to many photos of food at this point,, but they are fun to shoot and share! I think whatever allows you to create the picture that is nicest for your eyes , is what you should use for photography. I use a cell phone only, but admire those who use a real camera. The quality is better, but the phones are improving.

Haha. I feel you! Since I purchased my DSLR, I haven't been using my phone to take pictures much. I mostly transfer photos from my camera to my phone for posting on instagram. But then again, I don't post on instagram as much. :)
