Vegan leather

Remember the good ol' days when fake leather was called faux leather and/or pleather? Personally, I have a problem with the term "vegan leather".  I don't think it sounds any more trendy or animal-friendly than calling it faux leather.  I'm all for veganism and all, but not when the term is used to spark new clothing lingo.  In fact, doesn't that actually undermine veganism by turning it into a synonym for "fake, where no animals were harmed in the making of this"?  Quite frankly, if you don't intend on eating your jackets and purses, it doesn't need to be labelled as "vegan".

  4. Haha I kinda see your point here! I don't mind if people called it "Vegan leather" but I will always called "faux leather". I do not think the word vegan leather will last long anyways; it's more like a trend. The outfit looks great by the way.

  9. I agree! And I hate the non-word "pleather" too. It's vinyl. Or it's faux leather. Or even leather-look.
Whatever it is, your jacket is fabulous :-) But it looks black, not plum... or is that just me?

  11. I get pleather because usually pleather is referring to PVC which I use a lot for costumes versus regular faux leather which looks more like the real thing and has less plastic shine. Loving the coat btw, the plum is so lovely and subtle.

  16. Like this edgy outit & I don't mind the term vegan leather. I have a few vegan friends who are also animal activists and I think the reason they refer to things as vegan or vegan friendly (makeup, clothes, etc) is because they feel so strongly about the treatment of animals and they want to know the products they're purchasing adhere to their values.
