Fashion takes a backseat to my inner geek

Sometimes, I still question why I even care to be fashionable when I go to school.  I mean, all fashion really does is garner weird stares for not wearing campus gear and jeans. There's a certain irony in being a fashionista at school.  On one hand, we dress to impress.  Yet at the same time, to a certain extent, we have to not care about what others think since we don't blend into the crowd. Ponder that.

Anyway, that little prelude leads me to my recent obsession with laptop bags.  I recently bought a satchel-like laptop bag that doubles as a camera case so I can be stylin' on any day, instead of carrying around a frumpy backpack.  Yeah, the look of a pretty dress paired with a backpack was getting old.

Dear friends, I AM accepting late birthday gifts!

I'm speechless and redundant

Fashion blogger fail.  So I managed to strain my hamstring by walking in some high wedges the other day.  You'd think that I'd be capable enough to walk in high shoes by now.  Despite the fact that I could barely walk, I pushed through the pain and decided to wear heels the day after to a fashion show.  Funny enough, I felt a lot less sore after walking in heels the entire night.

The blouse was more of a transitional piece that I wore on my way to the show.  Like always, I felt super classy taking a crowded bus at 6 pm dressed in glam-ed up night attire.  And I think that I have found one of the noisiest shoes ever.  As if heels weren't loud enough, but these have little silver ornaments that jingle with ever step.  In other news, I'm not really one for makeup because I definitely just don't have the artistic flare for it...or the eye structure.  For poking around with a brush and randomly blending colours, it wasn't that much of a disaster though.  Except that I went to a makeup gala. Then my eye work looked like a disaster in comparison.

-Black sequin skirt from Joe Fresh
-Black heels from Aldo
-Blue blouse from Forever 21

The girl who cried unbloggable

Sorry for the lack of posts this week.  I have multiple excuses that somehow get more and more valid.  Firstly, I was lazy.  Next, I had no one to take photos for me.  And that brings us to today where I find myself with a little 24 hour bug.

While I don't have an outfit post for this week, I didn't want to leave the blog completely empty.  All I want to do right now is curl up in a big comfy sweater over a bowl of chicken noodle soup- neither of which I have.  I'm not quite sure how I feel about the oversized effortlessly chic trend.  Don't get me wrong, it looks great. But I have all these fitted shirts from the last few seasons.  I also find that fitted is more of a classic, versatile style, but there's only so much you can do with a baggy sweater.  I know...ew, fitted- how dare I.

Chicken noodle soup though, now that's classic. Never goes out of style.

In my absence, consult this list

Dear family,

Since you have decided to go stateside shopping without me, I find it necessary to leave you with a small wishlist.  I have made things simple by listing items from only one store.  Please take into consideration the cut and print of each dress and find me something similar, if not the exact item.  Also, use your imagination and keep an eye out for shirts, shorts, and skirts that resemble these prints.

Happy shopping! Bring me back something pretty!

My life is a stereo- how loud does it go?

I decided to stray away from my usual girly look today and go for something a little more rocker-esque.  Boots in the summer?  I probably wouldn't pull this look off for much longer than a few minutes.  I'd rather save the boots for autumn and throw my sandals back on!  Now let me ask you, dear bloggers- what's the weirdest place you've done photos?  Here I am, leaning rather close to a dumpster right outside my apartment, yet when I walk outside in the morning, I walk on the other side of the parking lot to avoid it as much as possible.  I guess my rules of sensibility change for the blog.

What I'm wearing:
-Shirt from Forever 21
-Knit vest from Joe Fresh
-Black bag from Winners
-Black shorts

I think my life is passing me by

As promised, here are some proper outfit photos. It was a pretty fair day of experimenting with the new camera.  I know fairly little right now about DSLR's, but it's sort of fun prancing around town pretending I'm somewhat of a professional.  These photos were taken in front of a Catholic church that I've admired for a while now.  There's just something so classic and beautiful about cathedrals.  The outfit itself is what I wore to work that day.  So I'm the fanciest person in the web department.  I don't see a problem with that, do you?

What I'm wearing:
-Striped blouse
-Pink bubble skirt
-Nude wedges from Nine West
-Layered pearl necklace

And oh hey, it's Music Monday. Enjoy this little tune that the title of this post came out of. I remember first hearing it when I was like, 13 and thinking that it was annoyingly catchy. I still feel the same way.

What I do in a blackout

Nope, you're not going to find a new outfit post here.  Instead, you'll find a few photos of what I do when the power goes out in my apartment. You know, creep around the hallway trying to hide from the ghosts, avoid the mysterious markings on the wall...the usual.

I'll have a proper outfit post tomorrow on what I'm wearing in these makeshift photos.  I live in an apartment on a floor with double digits.  Yeah, it wasn't fun during a blackout.  Especially not in high wedges.  Ohh, what I do for the blog.

Clothes over bros

I apologize for the semi dismal quality of the photos, but I was so excited to use my new camera, I wasn't gonna let a little downpour and wind storm stand in my way.

So this is quite the birthday outfit.  Wore it on my birthday, and it's mainly of things I got for my birthday.  The beauty of having a blog is that my mom sees when I'm lusting for things like brightly coloured skirts.  And nothing beats a custom made t-shirt with a catchy saying (philosophy?) from the sister.

What I'm wearing:
-"Clothes before bros" graphic white t-shirt
-Red pleated skirt from Zara
-Black heels

A little reflection on the blog

A few months ago, I had a quarter-life crisis.  I realized that I was turning 20 soon and felt little sense of achievement.  What was I doing with my life?  Why was I just letting the days pass me by quietly?

And that's why I started the blog. To do something. Although at the time, I wasn't quite sure where I was going with this.
It was somewhere along the lines of a documentation for my days, and to see what kind of a response a little blogger with no experience like me could get.  Being a communications major (nerd), I was interested in seeing how my blog would spread.

Dear readers, you've already given me more than I could've imagined.

It's been a while since I've dreamed big. I found it perfectly acceptable to be going through the mundane notions of life.  I've never really been passionate or excelled at anything in particular. But now, I've got something to call my own. Something to look forward to. Something that I look forward to watching grow.

I've met so many incredible people and have been inspired by what they do.  I'm enjoying this quirky fashion circle that makes it okay refuse blending in with the crowd.  I'm enjoying how people are using fashion to convey their politics.  I suppose I've always had a sort of whimsical sarcasm to me, but being told that my writing is my weapon inspires a new way of thinking.  Thank you for helping me to want to dare to think outside the box, and express those opinions.

I have a certain pride in being a walking paradox.  I'm a chameleon in my styles because I like to continue surprise people.  Let's face it- people do judge on appearance and dress, but if my appearance chances, I'm a little harder to figure out.  There's honestly a certain thrill in being a different person than my first impression gives off.

My 20th birthday just passed, and I could not feel a greater sense of accomplishment and pride.  Having a blog is undoubtedly one of the best things that has happened.
