One thing I disliked most about being in the orchestra group in middle school was the mandatory uniform that we had to wear during performances. I mean, it wasn't even a real uniform- we were just required to wear a white dress shirt over black pants/skirt. I really didn't think there was any way to make that look good. I tried finding conservatively unique shirts or adding jewelry, but it didn't really work. After I quit orchestra (I played the violin), I never wore a plain white blouse again.
Now all of a sudden, I want to flock to those plain pieces again. Sure, they're not paired with black pants, but there's nothing dorky about these looks. There's something really crisp and simple about these looks that hold professionalism in a chic refinement. It's a wonder what the addition of pockets, rolled sleeves, and shirt lengths can do.

I love crisp white button downs. I think we had uniforms too...but I've been out of highschool band too long to remember...wait actually I think we just had to dress up!

White shirt is a staple item for any wardrobe. And oh yes, details affect the look a lot.

p.s. Our fashion experiments are yet to be undertaken in Australia ;)
There's nothing I love more than a comfy button down that fits just right. I have 6 or 7 in my closet right now. I would wear them every day if I could!
ReplyDeleteThere's something so classic about a white shirt though! I get what you mean about not liking them because you have to wear them for a uniform xoxo
ReplyDeleteI think this was the band uniform everywhere, because it is certainly what I wore for band in Junior High too. I have to say though, that I have always loved a plain white top, and was a big fan of finding cute ones when it was part of my uniform.
ReplyDeleteNow, they are just staple pieces that work with pretty much everything in my closet
Hi Sabrina how are you? Long time no hear from ya! Love your idea on pairing the white shirt with the pleated skirt. I have a pretty similar pleated skirt. Maybe I should try wearing like this... :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday girl.
I love these crisp lines and overall laid back feel of these outfits, Sabrina.
ReplyDeleteMakes me wanna join a band if that's what it involves!

funny how the things you hated when you were younger are suddenly cool again xx
ReplyDeleteI love wearing white oxford shirts! I used to wear them a lot because I went to a private all-girls school and it was mandatory to wear it every Monday. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the simple look because I can create different outfits with it!

Beautiful write-up. I was in chorus when I was little and was required to wear black skirts/pants and white blouses as well. I shudder just thinking about it. But now, there's something classy about white tops. I'm with you on that one!

I love the second shirt! (The one with denim shorts)

One of my favorite pieces in my closet is a white crisp button down. They can simply take you to places :) I used to dream about being part of an orchestra, only I didn't know how to play any musical instrument. Don't you want to go for it again? :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely. Clean chic sophisticated!

easily maintained must be one of the draws.
ReplyDeleteThis post is so creative. I love your narrative. It is so funny- as younger children so many of us, me included, saw staple and simple items, like a white shirt, as boring and dorky. But now these staples are seen as chic, classic and hold so many possibilities. I love the images you feature. All looks I would definitely wear.

I gotta hot tail my little butt to Zara...I love the little navy shorts in the second style. So cute; paired with a crisp white shirt...ow!
ReplyDeleteI never really liked uniforms or imposed dress codes..but boy, those white shirts look cool! :)
ReplyDeleteThese are great looks! The school I work at is going to uniforms this year and I just know that there are going to be a few standout kids who know how to worl a look. Great inspiration.
